The small village of Alt Jabel, surrounded by lovely countryside, is the setting of a children's holiday camp and forest learning centre run by the Zebef Association (www.zebef.de). W: Your work will be varied and takes place in the open air, in beautiful grounds interspersed with little bungalows: the forest learning centre's school building needs repainting, a small wooden climbing frame for the children needs repairing, the roof of a shelter needs renovating. |
The centre's forest is crying out for another pruning and clearing session. A: You'll stay in the cosy little bungalows, where you'll prepare your own meals (paid for by IJGD) and share the housework. There is a campfire as well as a volleyball and football field. Alt Jabel lies within the beautiful and largely unspoilt Mecklenburg-West Pomeranian countryside near the valley of the river Elbe. There is a swimming pool set in the idyllic forest and you'll have bicycles to explore the surrounding forests and the Elbe valley. The nearest town is Dömitz (12 km), which has an historic old town and a well-preserved castle. At weekends you could visit Hamburg, Schwerin and the Baltic Sea. L: Mecklenburg, West Pomerania; Hamburg - 100 km, Ludwigslust - 30 km. T: Train station: Ludwigslust. Airport: Hanover / Berlin / Hamburg |
