Kikuchi (Kumamoto), Japan

NICE/84 Kikuchi (Kumamoto) 09/12-25/12 ENVI, CONS 6 vols.
Organized together with “Kirari Suigen Mura” a local NGO, since 05. In spite of a wonderful natural heritage, depopulation of youth is serious here as well as many other villages in Japan. They are tackling community improvement by using an abandon wooden school and planning to organize Green-tourism so that many people come and know nature beauty in this area...

Our aim to animate the local community, we will also help local formers, join local events, etc.

W: We will construct the small cottage for Forest volunteers. We will also help local organic farmers in the farms. We’ll also organize volunteer events, which could involve many local people. We would do various community works needed in the area.
S: The theme will be decided later. Bring some info.!
A: A building in the center.. You may share a room with others. Cooked by yourselves by turns.
L: Kikuchi is located in Kyushu island and near the border of Kumamoto, Oita and Fukuoka. 1 hour
from Kumamoto city by bus. Kikuchi is famous for hot springs and its nature beauty.
T: Fukuoka (2 hours by car).
LA: Exchange parties, excursions, etc.
SR: Motivation to actively work and with local people!

Club for children in Suprasl has existed since 1998. The main purpose of this club is work with children who come from families affected by alcoholism and who grow up in an environment menaced by many different dysfunctions. For the whole school year a qualified pedagogue and sociotherapist staff work with children and their parents. Since September children start coming to club after lessons. They do homework and have every day some activities (sociotherapist, sport, art, ecological etc.). In Monastery where the club is big garden where children can play football, volleyball etc. We do for them dinner (they can also eat before dinner, because we have kitchen in club). Around Supraś there are many forests so we organize for them trips and games outside the club. We cooperate with clubs in Bialystok and together organise occasional parties. During winter and summer holidays we organise for our children camps. We organize also fundraising actions (selling Christmas candles, making and selling postcards etc.). Apart from the regular staff there are also local volunteers who help children do homework and take part in the activities. Supraśl is located in the northem-eastern part of Poland, 15 km from Bialystok (is very good communication with Bialystok).
